Artist's Statement

Joyce Morishita taught at Governors State University for more than two decades and has been included in more than one hundred solo and group exhibitions.   In her series, The Planets, inspired by Gustav Holst's symphonic suite, she explores the astrological significance of the planets.   However, unlike Holst, the connection of the planets with deities of classical mythology bearing the same name was also attempted, and the principle motifs of the paintings were associated with their mythological sources.
