Art in Alternative Spaces
presents
A Solo Exhibition of Paintings by
Paul Sierra
at
Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport, Chicago, IL
On Display in the Curtain Call Gallery through June 3, 2012
I was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the USA in 1961. I attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. For the last 30 years, I have made my living as an artist. My work is representational, dealing with man's place in Nature.
“Art is a great help to the immigrant, transforming the chaos of his life into a positive vision. Art heals the spirit by virtue of the creative act, which helps us find in our memories and myths a new identity. The act of painting becomes the act of memory, a line from the present to the past and back again, establishing our identity as a person.”
Mr. Sierra has had more than sixty solo exhibitions in the USA. His work can be found in the collections of The Museum of Contemporary Art and Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art in Chicago; The National Museum of American Art and Smithsonian in Washington D.C.; The Snite Museum in Indiana; the Fort Lauderdale Museum and Lowe Museum in Florida; the Museo del Barrio in N.Y and many more.
