ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY
This exhibition features two bodies of work by self-taught Oak Park artist
Stacey Previn. Stacey's fractured paintings are made of broken eggshells
painted with concentrated watercolors. The intensity of the color
contrasts with the black cracks to create a luminous appearance. The
surface is then varnished with gloss to protect and deepen the colors giving the
work a rich liquid look. The delicate cracks in the eggshells speak
to the vulnerability within each character Stacey has created.
Stacey's other work in the exhibit is created using colorful pieces of broken
glass on wood arranged in a mosaic pattern. Here too, the cracks in
the figures represent the fragility of life as the works ask the questions,
"What is Life?", "What is Faith?", "What is
Beauty?", "What is Strength?" and "What is Love?"
