Debra Bosio Riley

To create her fragmented renaissance images of the Virgin Mary, Ms. Riley applies oil paint to antique wooden ironing boards. The result is a surprising view of masterly painting and kitsch - a contrast between the domestic common place and the sacred - combining to form a humorous installation that displaces expectations of the predictable.

Ms. Riley's artwork (which also includes film, video, audio and sculpture) has been exhibited at the Contemporary Art Workshop and A.R.C. Gallery in Chicago. Outside Chicago, her work has been shown in New York City, Canada, Michigan, Vermont, and Germany.

Ms. Riley received her MFA in visual art from Norwich University, her BFA in painting from Wayne State University in Michigan, and is currently a faculty member of the Illinois Institute of Art. She is a full time artist who lives and works in Chicago.
